Canada seemed to be in the news a lot during the US Elections. Many Americans stated that they would move to Canada if Trump was to end up victorious. South Park even made an episode where Canada built a wall to keep out Americans.

We all know what happened next.  Some Americans surely did follow through on their promise and move to Canada. For the majority, it probably wasn’t all that practical when push came to shove.

Whatever your reasons for thinking about a visit to Canada, either temporary or permanent, it’s definitely true to say that this country has grown in stature on the world stage over the last few years. If you are starting to ponder about where to head off to on your holidays this summer, Canada is definitely worth some serious consideration. Here are 5 of the biggest reasons why.

1. Canada Is Affordable

Anyone who has visited the US will know that it is a pretty expensive place to spend any length of time. Canada is certainly not a cheap holiday destination, in large part thanks to the cost of flying there in the first place, but it is definitely affordable. This is particularly true if you compare the cost of the Canadian dollar to that of the US dollar.

A recent list actually claimed that Montreal is the 78th cheapest city in the world to stay. This might not sound all that good, but think about how many cities there are in the world. $50 a day was how much they worked out you would need to sleep, eat 3 meals, travel on public transport, visit a tourist site, and have a few beers at the end of it all.  More than reasonable.

2. Canada Is Ridiculously Beautiful

A lot of people don’t realize just how huge Canada is. This might be because you haven’t met many Canadians. This isn’t really all that unusual as Canada has a relatively small population of 35 million. To put this into perspective, Japan’s capital city, Tokyo, has a larger estimated population than the whole of Canada. To make this even crazier, Canada is the fifth largest country in the world and is 24 times bigger than the whole of Japan, never mind Tokyo.

These statistics help to give you an idea of how ideal Canada can be. It’s a huge land mass full of great natural beauty, but it’s also a place where you’ll probably never feel overwhelmed by the number of people around. There is more than enough space for everyone. And this space features some of the most awe-inspiring nature in the whole world. Glaciers, Niagara Falls, crystal clear lakes, incredible forests, the Canadian Rockies, Canada truly is a nature lover’s paradise.

3. Canada Welcomes Diversity

In spite of having a relatively small population and a strong connection to France, with French still being a heavily used official language in large parts of the country, Canada is renowned for being a welcoming, cultural melting pot. It’s a country that people from many different cultural backgrounds call home.

This diversity of backgrounds is something that visitors will most easily see in the major cities where urban hubs feature a wide range of ethnic neighborhoods, restaurants, and shops. It also extends beyond the different races and cultures of the people who live here.

Due to its vast size, Canada is also highly diverse in terms of its environment. From its amazing mountain ranges to the peaceful coastlines, Canada is a country that has something to offer everyone.

4. Canada Is Cool

Canada is undoubtedly an attractive tourist destination thanks to its great natural beauty, but this is also a pretty happening place. The major cities of Toronto, Vancouver, Quebec, and Ottawa are all lively urban centers where there’s always something going on.

For lovers of nightlife, culture vultures, foodies, shopaholics, and everybody else in between, Canada’s cities are definitely places where you can spend a whole vacation. It would be a shame to not take in the wonderful country on offer while you’re around, but you’ll go home with happy memories and a smile on your face either way.

5. Canada Is Fun For Everyone

The sheer size of Canada is reflected in the options that it offers to its visitors. Whether you are a single backpacker on a round the world trip or a family looking for something to offer everyone, Canada really is an ideal place.

For those who love the outdoors, Canada is clearly some kind of heaven on earth, but it also features fast-moving modern environments if that’s what you want to tap into.

Another facet that makes it particularly appealing to visitors is that Canada is a safe country to visit no matter who you are. Canada is not Utopia but this is a country that has very little violent crime. Of course, you need to take precautions and be sensible, just as you would when at home, but this is definitely a place where you can safely enjoy your stay.
