What are the chances of having a perfect family? We all wished to have a family that never argues or disagrees with us, yet seldom were our hopes met.
In barely four minutes, we were exposed to a family dynamics that teeter unsteadily on the edges, with sisters that hated each other almost from birth. Things didn’t improve until one day, the older sister realized she had cancer.
From the very beginning, the sisters were frosty to each other. As they grew up, the younger sister started partying, drinking and smoking while the older sister was sturdy, stoic and hard-working. Pushed to the boiling point after her younger sister stole her money to go to a party, she even wished for her younger sister to die.
Yet, the older sister was the one struck by cancer – and oh, the irony of it. Every cloud has a sliver lining though, and soon her sister discovered her sickness. Bit by bit, they began to bond as the younger sister tended to and took care of her. In a heart-warming moment, the younger sister gave her older sister her hair. But as she has put it, “what my younger sister has given me is more than just hair”.
We all have our moments of frustration with our families. Rows happen, and sometimes we lash out to the people closest to us because they don’t reciprocate nor retaliate. Yet we must not abuse this privilege of having someone that will love us unconditionally.
Take some time to tell your family about how much you appreciate and love them every day, because if they can handle you at your worst, then they certainly deserve you at your best.
