We all know how important it is to exercise our bodies, but it is also of vital importance to keep our brains just as active. Constantly challenging the brain will result in physical and emotional rejuvenation and keep us feeling young! The older, we get the more we struggle with the day-to-day stagnant routine we find ourselves in, but by regularly participating in the right activities, you can counteract this boredom and feel better. Not only will your mood improve but you will also notice an increase in your memory function and a boost to your creativity.
Studies show that having some amount of brain exercise every day is vital to your health and wellbeing, such as this paper from Harvard Medical School.
Follow this simple plan and get your brain as active and alive as your body. These are easy to do and will only take a few minutes each day to complete.
Exercise 1: Close your eyes when you shower.
By closing your eyes, your hands will notice various textures on your body that you don’t “see.” This will send new messages back to your brain. Use your other senses, like touch, in the shower. So wash, scrub, shave, and whatever else you need to do with your eyes shut. Make this a daily habit for your morning shower.
Why It Matters
Closing your eyes forces your brain to focus on the other senses in the body to achieve results. Your brain will get messages from your sense of touch or smell instead of from your sight.
